In September 2026, the European Commission announced a proposal to help keep children and teenagers safe online. This is called the EU Kids Act.

The Act aims to better protect children from risky digital services and AI systems. Children will have delayed access to certain services, features and content, depending on their age. And Platforms will need to proved that their services are safe for children.

Have your say

The proposal will be discussed in the EU Parliament later this year. Before that, the European Commission wants to hear what EU citizens think about the Act.

The consultation is open until 26 November. You need an email account to be able to add your feedback, so you may need an adult to help you.

What is in the EU Kids Act?

Delayed access to social media

Children should only have access to the content and services that are appropriate for their age.

Parents and guardians will play an important role in overseeing children's access, and Platforms will also need to use age check tools.

Safety by design

The EU Kid's Act proposes do’s and don’ts for social media, video-sharing platforms, online video games, AI companions and chatbots offering services to children.

Providers of very large online platforms must prove their services are safe by design from the outset. This is to ensure that inappropriate, dangerous or addictive content and features do not reach children.
